The study has been made by the US-based AutoPacific, an automotive marketing and product-consulting firm.
AutoPacific announced its 20th annual Vehicle Satisfaction Awards, based on a survey made on responses from over 65, 000 owners of new 2015 and 2016 model year cars and light trucks. After years of American brands taking the top spot for the most satisfying popular, non-luxury, brand, the South Korean automaker Kia seems to have convinced a lot of buyers in the past years. “Kia has been coming on strong for years and has won many individual vehicle awards,” AutoPacific president George Peterson said, “but this year they dominated among popular marques with a total brand score that is 16 points higher than the nearest competitor, GMC.”
Despite the recent quality issues reported by many customers and media as well, Tesla has emerged once again at the top of the premium segment, as the most satisfying luxury brand for the second year in a row, thus staying in front of Cadillac. Speaking of GM’s upscale brand, AutoPacific granted Cadillac this year with the most important awards, thanks to the 2016 Escalade SUV which received the honors for the Most Satisfying Vehicle Overall and the President’s Award. The latter one is given only when the overall score tops the previous high score and this happened to only three other models so far: the 2015 Kia K900, 2014 Mercedes’ S-Class flagship and the 2010 Hyundai Sonata.
Overall for 2016, General Motors received the most wins with 7, followed by Kia and Nissan each with 4, Mercedes-Benz with 3, and Hyundai and Toyota each with 2 wins. Volvo, Honda and Tesla each were rewarded with 1 win. This year also marked the first year that neither Ford, nor Fiat Chrysler had a winning model.
