Alongside the more down to Earth Grand Cherokee, Jeep has also unleashed officially the SRT version for the 2015 model year, featuring a new Red Vapor special edition.
The interior refresh is actually nothing to talk about – or rather nothing to hear about: the new Active Noise Canceling system from the Summit trim carries over, allowing fewer noises to pass inside the cabin. We’re not sure that’s a good idea – after all, that under the hood grunt is music to our ears, right?
Fortunately, some changes were made in the right department – with the 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine updated to deliver an utterly impressive power of 475 bhp (354 kW) and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque – up 5 bhp (3 kW) and 5 lb-ft (6 Nm) over the 2014 model year. Mated to an eight-speed automatic, the Grand Cherokee SRT can jump to 62 mph in 4.8 seconds and top out at 160 mph (257 km/h). The revisions have also boosted towing capacity to a very impressive 7,200 pounds, up from 5,000 on the outgoing model.
There’s also a new Red Vapor Special Edition on offer, which boasts gloss black accents, a devilishly dark red engine cover 20-inch alloy finished in Black Chrome. There are some goodies for the inside as well, such as Radar Red trim, “light black chrome” accents, among others.
