A new promotional video with the 2016 Volkswagen Touran is showing the fun side of owning an MPV.
Buying an MPV as a man usually means that your life is over. I mean, don’t get me wrong, there is nothing to complain on driving such a vehicle and my reviews of several “minivans” have proved it, but when it comes to the exterior look, you will hate your life for not choosing a midsized crossover or estate. Volkswagen sure knows this and it’s trying to promote the new Touran in a clip showing its “fun” side. Whether this is enough to attract more customers into the model it remains to be seen but we have to admit that this is “clever marketing”.
As you probably already know by now, the Volkswagen Touran is in its second generation. It has been shown back in March, during the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, and it’s riding on the MQB platform, borrowed from the Golf VII. The MPV has a 113 mm longer wheelbase and a trunk capacity that has increased by 48 liters, to 1,040 liters. This can be transformed into 1,980 liters with the rear seats folded. Despite being larger, the Touran is 62 kg lighter than its predecessor. Some of the goodies found on it include the full LED headlights, tri-zone automatic climate control, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink and a 5- or 7-seat configuration. Prices for such a vehicle start from 23,350 euros and they can go up to 35,425 euros.
