Back in 2011 the South Korean automaker showcased for the first time the rear-wheel-drive GT concept – and now a series-produced models is almost here, complete with top notch performance.
The model will be revealed for the first time in front of a live audience next month during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit and Kia wants to direct attention towards it with the start of a teaser campaign. There’s even a dedicated site called “The Curve Ahead” – the first episode of the campaign is already here and showcases the car doing a run on the Nurburgring in Germany – with the camera capturing on-board footage. It shows the model reaching 244 kph (151 mph) but digging on the website there’s also an image scheduled to go out with the second teaser episode. Here the speedometer’s needle goes slightly above 280 kph (174 mph) – maybe hinting at GT’s performance capabilities.
There are few details to discuss about the model, though according to the rumor mill the flagship GT version could pack the new biturbo 3.3-liter V6 from the Genesis models – where it racks 365 horsepower (272 kilowatts) and 376 pound-feet (509 Newton-meters). Entry versions could arrive with the new turbocharged 2.0-liter unit from the 2017 Hyundai i30 N that will pack around 250 hp and for Europe a turbodiesel is also in the cards.
