The Volvo S60 and V60 have been patiently waiting for the retirement ticket for quite some time now, but the Swedish automaker has other plans – instead putting in motion the introduction of yet another crossover, the all-new XC40.
So, with about a year or so before the generational switch, there are reasons to consider when trying to keep interest alive for the models that have already grown long in the tooth. So, the best way to attract new fans is to supplement the offering at the top – in the flagship Polestar form. The performance versions are preparing some pretty neat upgrades for the 2018 model year – in the form of an aerodynamic exterior kit. It may not sound like much, but the pack is solely made out of carbon fiber elements, including front splitter, side sills, and a rear spoiler mounted on the trunk lid or to the roof if you go for the family-friendly V60 station wagon. It’s naturally better looking than before, but the duo also gets improved aerodynamic efficiency – up 30% for both body styles.
Apparently these new elements have received proper testing – they were developed and tried last year when Polestar Cyan Racing was temporarily stationed at Nürburgring to take down the record for the four-door production model – they managed to do that but even before announcing it they were topped by others (Panamera and Alfa Giulia). Along with the pack, the 2018 MY S60 and V60 now also include carbon fiber side mirror caps, a new design for the glossy black Polestar wheels, along with a new paint nicknamed “Bursting Blue Metallic.”
