No, the German automaker hasn’t spilled the beans to a tuner shop about the new generation G Class, and instead the aftermarket specialist decided to try and update the design on its own.
Not only that, but the new Ares X-Raid is also way more powerful than the top offering from the factory – the Mercedes-AMG G65 with a V12 packing no less than 621 horsepower (463 kilowatts) and a sprint to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in just 5.1 seconds. Enter Ares Design, a new Modena-based coachbuilder established by former Lotus CEO Dany Bahar back in 2015. And their first product is the newly unveiled X-Raid – a 760-hp (566-kW) monster acting as a coachbuild version of the G-Class sporting a completely new and modern design.
It’s actually based on the less powerful Mercedes-AMG G63, with the Ares X-Raid nurturing the same AMG-sourced 5.5-liter V8 up to 760 hp (566 kW), now capable of reaching an electronically governed maximum speed of 155 mph (249 kph). The new and stylish body panels are made out of lightweight carbon fiber and aluminum, bringing down the total compared to the standard version by no less than 440 pounds (200 kilograms). Even the wheels are an exclusive 22-inch bespoke Ares Design forged design, and the interior has been treated to a “completely new cockpit,” as well, adorned with Nappa leather and single VIP seats in the rear.
