Matt Prior from Autocar has recently went for a spin in the new Ferrari 488 GTB.
After being officially presented to the public back in March, during the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, and then being the main star of several videos, time has come for the newest addition in the Italian based automaker’s lineup to shine in a review signed by Autocar. The Ferrari 488 GTB is being shown, in the video posted below, on the Fiorano track and also on public roads, with a main question trying to be answered: is this worthy to be the successor of the 458 Italia?
The Ferrari 488 GTB is nothing more than an evolution of the previous 458 Italia. The model has received an updated exterior design which, besides setting some distance between it and its predecessor, it is also helping its aerodynamics. The supercar is getting larger air intakes, new design for the LED taillights, a new wider front spoiler and a new diffuser, amongst others. The main change is found under its hood where the carmaker has dropped the naturally aspirated 4.5 liter V8 engine in favor for a brand new 3.9 liter V8, which is twin turbocharged. The opening of a new era in turbo Ferraris has begun and the new unit is capable of putting down a total of 670 HP (493 kW) and 760 Nm (560 lb-ft) of torque. The unit is connected to the 7-speed dual clutch transmission, allowing it to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3 seconds and a top speed of 330 km/h (205 mph). The rear mid-engine and rear-wheel drive layout have been maintained.
