The 89th Academy Awards have now become infamous for Trump’s Twitter non-responsiveness and the fact that another movie actually won the Best Picture award…
But for automotive fans this edition will have a sweet spot – as the organizers stroked our love for the Back to the Future franchise and allowed Michael J. Fox and Seth Rogen to travel from the future to attend the ceremony – in the ugly and unreliable, but oh so loved DeLorean DMC-12. This was perhaps one of the best moments of the Oscars night – when Michael J. Fox and Seth Rogen appeared on stage getting out of the car to present the Academy Award for Best Film Editing to Hacksaw Ridge. We’re dealing of course with a replica of the DeLorean DMC-12 time machine from the “Back to the Future” trilogy – and as the icing on the cake, Seth Rogen had a pair of futuristic self-lacing Nike shoes as a tribute to the second movie.
The cool shoes were even available for a brief amount of time in a raffle with the proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, and the greater news is the DeLoren can be yours again. This is due to the Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act of 2015, allowing the rebirth of the DMC-12 with parts from the original but also updates to make amends. Specific technical details and pricing will become available once the car starts production sometimes this year.
