It’s always interesting to see the clash of generations, be it humans or machines. We’re naturally rooting for the latter as being less serious traditionally, and thus way more entertaining.
So, Auto Express has decided that a track battle between the latest member of the Nissan GT-R lineup, namely the 45th anniversary edition, and the predecessor, the GT-R R34, the last to bear the Skyline moniker was decidedly in order and highly fashionable. With the GT-R anniversary edition being made at the end of the production run for the current generation (we’re eagerly awaiting its retirement and the upcoming all-new generation), we’re sure the Skyline will have trouble following. After all, it has been made in 1999 and is nowhere near the power level or technological sophistication the GT-R displays today. Though if the guys at Auto Express had at hand the very special R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R Nismo Z-Tune we might have deffered judgment to the final moments of the video.
At the other end of the spectrum sits the 2016 GT-R 45th Anniversary Edition, which is a gold-painted limited series model that has a global reach of just 45 units. It’s based on the GT-R Premium trim and is, naturally, celebrating the model’s long heritage of exquisite performance. Interesting enough – the special gold color is the same “Silica Brass” paint used by the 2001 Skyline GT-R M-Spec (R34). With a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine churning out 550PS (542hp) and 463lb-ft (627Nm) of torque we all know who the winner is, but seeing the two iconic models is a treat nonetheless and we invite you to view the video in its full glory.
