The German based automaker BMW has been caught testing its new 6-Series Gran Coupe on the famous Nurburgring track, with the model being a direct competitor to the Mercedes-Benz CLS.
Even if the 6-Series Gran Coupe has the character of a luxurious grand touring car, BMW is working on its performance and handling, bringing it close to its main competitor, the CLS made by Mercedes-Benz.
The 6-Series Gran Coupe will also be similar in size to its rival and rumors say that the wheelbase will be shared with the 5-Series, but the model will be 3.5 inches shorter, being also wider and lower than both the 5-Series and the 6-Series coupe and cabrio.
Initial rumors were saying that the 6-Series Gran Coupe will feature frameless door windows even if the vehicle will have a B-pillar and the model will also be available with the XDrive technology.
The new BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe is expected to share the same engine range with the 6-Series Coupe, with a possible M version of the luxurious vehicle in the works.
In the video below you can see both the 640 and 650 Gran Coupe models, with the 650 wearing the 6-Series M Sport wheels.
The upcoming BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe is expected to be launched sometimes in 2012, as a 2013 model year and the vehicle might stand in the six-figure zone.
