The German automaker might very well get ready to reveal the 8 Series, given it has officially announced its motorsport counterpart – the M8 GTE – is scheduled for a track introduction this coming weekend at the Rolex 24 At Daytona.
Munich’s big coupe has already been teased, spied and even leaked in the past, so it would be understandable if the company chooses to eschew the few weeks between now and the official worldwide public introduction of the all-new 8 Series scheduled for March at the Geneva Motor Show. We’re certainly getting a barrage of teasers – this sexy back, videos of both the production and competition models, along with official photographs of the lightly dressed prototypes. By the way, the teaser photo illumination clearly resembles the leak of the 8 Series, making it almost certainly legit.
BMW is gearing up for the weekend appearance of the high-performance M8 in GTE form at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, and usually such performance motorsport models are introduced later than the production version. We might have a camouflaged appearance, to allow for the arrival of the production model and then of the road-going M8 later on in 2018. By the way, rumors point to an initial introduction in 850i V8 form, and everyone’s really hoping for the behemoth V12 7 Series crossover later on.
