We’re just weeks away from the relaunch of BMW’s ‘The Hire’ series and we’re very satisfied the new installment is a star-packed, action-heavy short film.
BMW Films has officially introduced the trailer for its upcoming short The Escape, which is set in the world of The Hire series and apparently has aged like fine wine. Clive Owen – who wasn’t a star back when the shenanigans started – is making a return as the titular Driver. As with good filmmaking, we’re in the dark about the plot but we do know he will help in some way a young woman, played by Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds, The Twilight Saga), who is being pursued by dark forces, led by Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, The Wolf of Wall Street).Of course, mayhem and great driving ensues, with Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium) direct it all.
Back in 2001, when BMW launched to critical and commercial acclaim The Hire series they also practically invented the term of viral video marketing – the series consisted of five short films showcasing the BMW models of the time. The package was flavored with big name actors and some of the best action movie directors in the world. Most likely the best known installment was titled “Star” and included Madonna – who plays a difficult celebrity but gets thrown around in an M5 by The Driver. The films were only available online and estimates put around 100 million viewers, remember that back then there was no Facebook or even YouTube.
