The BMW i8 has been officially presented to the public during the 2013 Dubai International Motor Show, in a local premiere.
Following the world debut of the BMW i8 at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, the model in question has been also brought to the 2013 Dubai International Motor Show, where it made its debut in the Middle East. The BMW i8 is taking its power from a 1.5 liter three-cylinder gasoline TwinPower Turbo engine, producing 231 HP (170 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque, backed up by an electric motor, providing an extra 131 HP (96 kW), sent to the FWD through a 2-stage automatic transmission.
The total output produced by the BMW i8 stands at 362 HP (266 kW) and 570 Nm (420 lb-ft) of torque. Thanks to these figures, the BMW i8 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds, while getting an average fuel consumption of 2.5L / 100km (113 mpg UK / 94 mpg US). The BMW i8 can be driven on electric power for 35 km (22 miles), at a top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph). The total range stands at more than 500 km (310 miles) once the petrol engine kicks in.
