[Video] BMW M235i races the Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG from 0 to 260 km/h
This speedometer acceleration battle is like the fight in the featherweight boxing – both athletes are light but stunningly powerful and fast. So, without further ado, let’s see who makes the KO here.
As the battle for the leadership in premium segment world sales rages on, the skirmish needs fighters from every unit, including the recently very successful compact segment. That means BMW’s 2 Series flagship will face off the newly developed CLA four door coupe – in its AMG iteration.
The M235i – alongside all of its less powerful brethren – was designed to set new standards in terms of “dynamic ability, aesthetic appeal and emotional allure.” The M235i has under the hood a beating heart of 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-six nature, that churns out 326 HP (240 kW) and 450 Nm (322 lb-ft) of torque – enough for 0-100 in five seconds (4.8 with 8 speed automatic).
On the other side, the Mercedes racer snatches the engine from the A 45 AMG hatch, a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo that outs 360 HP (265 kW) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque. The engine is linked to a seven-speed, dual-clutch AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7 transmission that sends the power to the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.
If you can’t wait until the end… although we certainly recommend it, you should note that a higher output and a 4×4 system is not always the winning combination.
