We’re not even surprised this happened – but here it goes, another high-profile, highly expected model is hitting the spotlight ahead of its intended official reveal – and this time we’re talking about the 2018 BMW M5.
The leak is coming just ahead of the official unveiling, and has been brought to us via South Korean YouTube channel, and of course by BMW Blog and Bimmerpost – the regular news outlets for everything BMW ahead of time. The new generation high-performance sedan is the pinnacle of BMW M, naturally, even though it retains the serious look of its predecessors, making a stance without throwing common sense over board. The exterior design makes use of the common features to distinguish itself from the standard 5 Series – huge air intakes up front, larger wheel arches on the side and integrated diffuser with quad exhaust tips at the back. We also noticed the new alloys and even the mirror caps are different.
Everything inside adopts the sober, mature look – with very few distinguishable cues such as the new short throw gear shifter with a new styling. According to another rumor outlet, the new M5 might gun for the “quickest four-door sedan in the world,” title, thanks to its upgraded 4.4-liter biturbo engine packing a reported 680 horsepower (507 kilowatts). That would allow it to accelerate to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in 2.9 seconds, as well as perform a quarter-mile run of 10.5 seconds at 126 mph (203 kph). Top speed – an amazing 230 mph (370 kph).
