A video detailing the BMW X5 eDrive Concept has been recently released by the German based automaker.
BMW will launch a plug-in hybrid version of the new X5 generation and this should be ready in the following months. The model in question will be based on the X5 eDrive Concept and it will get the same specifications as the one-off vehicle. Chances are that the final production version of the SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle) will have a very similar exterior design which will help it set apart from its conventional brothers. Reports are saying that the model will be named the X5 xDrive40e and it will come out over the following months.
The BMW X5 plug-in hybrid will use a 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, along with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack, which will be installed under the luggage area. The internal combustion unit will produce 245 HP and 350 Nm of torque and the electric motor will provide an extra 95 HP and 250 Nm of torque. The total output will stand at 340 HP (250 kW) and 600 Nm (442 lb-ft) of torque and the model will be able to run on electricity alone for up to 32 km (20 miles) at a maximum speed of 120 km/h (75 mph).
