American muscle cars have never been renowned for their arduous capabilities on the bending racetracks, though in later years we can see a tendency to amend that issue.
But this time around we’re here to witness some pretty US of A style drag racing – which is pretty much fun anyway you look at it. And to prove the American muscle still has the get go in this crucial department, we have here a brand new Chevrolet Camaro SS doing the straight line speed jump. And having the 2016 all new generation model means the GM brand has pretty much changed everything save for the iconic design – all new architecture that adopts lightweighting as its credo and massively increased maneuverability. While detractors may say the Camaro has a barren evolutionary design, fans will argue this is the way to go to keep up the spirit of the modern reincarnation. But whichever way you go you’ll have almost no complaint when talking about the powertrain – the massive naturally-aspirated 6.2-litre V8 engine, which is shared with the Corvette Stingray. We have here a 455 hp and 455 lb-ft beast which will manhandle those drag strips like it should.
So, this is exactly what we get to watch – the 2016 Camaro SS performing on the drag track. And the performance is one to be reckoned with – 10.602 seconds during its second run on the quarter mile. Ok, we admit, we’re talking here about a modified model (B&R Performance) – it has an upgraded ECU unit, drag strip radials and has also been fitted with nitrous. By the way, when leaving home the nitro the model still managed an impressive time of 11.77 seconds!
