The electric luxury sedan/supercar is a well-known fixture on drag strips these days, and it even took home the latest edition of Motor Trend’s World’s Greatest Drag Race against a raft of heavy ICE competitors.
The battery-powered Model S P100D won against spectacular entries such as the Ferrari 488 GTB and Porsche 911 Turbo S. Now DragTimes has decided to address some of the fan comments who wanted the Californian super sedan benchmarked against the latest and greatest from McLaren – the 720S. As the name suggests, the model has 710 horsepower (720 PS), but there are also many voices who believe the British maker actually purposely underrated the total figure.
Before we get down to business, we have to point out again that we condemn any form of racing on a public road – after all these two cars jointly surpass the 400k figure, so paying a medical sum for a private facility would be more than warranted. The video gets all the questions answered with three versus tests – two from a complete stop and one from a roll. We expect the battle to remain heated in the future – McLaren is certainly going to add a higher performance LT (long tail) version in the near future while Tesla continuously upgrades its products both from the hardware and software standpoint.
