Because it can, folks have decided to delight Audi fans with an interesting showdown between an RS3 Sportback and a seemingly iconic RS4 Avant from way back in 2001.
The Sportback designation is a little odd when it comes to Audi though – we have the A3 Sportback that basically looks like a station wagon and the A7 Sportback which is still a hatchback but of the fastback variety. Never mind that, because somebody has decided to pit a traditional wagon of old against the 2018 model year incarnation of the RS3. Just looking at them side by side and you’ll understand why the good folks over at Auditography have decided this is a wonderful comparison – the similarities in shape and size are nothing short of amazing.
The technical side is not just as close, though, with the RS3 going for a 00-horsepower turbocharged five-cylinder, whereas the predecessor had an infamous 2.7-liter biturbo six capable of a mere 261 ponies. Both send the power to all four wheels through the proprietary quattro all-wheel drive system, but the transmission duties are handled manually in the RS4 and via the seven-speed dual clutch box in the RS3. Naturally, the modern machine is faster – 3.9 seconds to 60 miles per hour, a full second faster – but considering there’s almost two decades of evolution, we can say the RS3 is virtually ashamed here…
