It was just two weeks ago that Tesla CEO and well-known entrepreneur Elon Musk talked during a ted presentation about his latest idea – the Boring Company, which aims to bring fast and affordable tunnel transportation.
Back then they had a sleek CGI animation – but now they’re back with the real deal, presenting images and video of the actual bored tunnel, as well as a prototype sled that is electric, will be used to transport cars and reached up to 125 mph (200 kph) during the test run. Musk – which is also an ardent promoter of the Hyperloop (a different take on the tunnel idea) – has been hinting about his boring idea for a while, and while the company just became official with its vision of the future, in reality the preparations were much more advanced – with an entry structure, a working boring machine to be used in segments that will eventually reach huge lengths as well as the electric prototype sled.
Of course, The Boring Company already had everything in working order as Musk delivered the Ted presentation – and while many people believed this to be a literal “pipe dream”, it turns out almost everything has already started coming to life. By the way, their first tunnel is being bored beneath SpaceX, the company that also counts on Musk as the commander and aims to put people into space and on other planets, like Mars.
