[Video] Ford goes back to Pairs to recreate classic stunt in VR and with legal approval image

This time around – as the company notes – everything is legit’. In case you lived long enough to remember how it was like even before the Internet (let alone YouTube), you might have enjoyed the French director Claude Lelouch’s 1976 short stunt film.

We are of course talking about the “C’était un Rendez Vous” illegal high-speed stunt – which became the real-life standard for depicting how you can trifle authorities in an automotive way. The short film depicts the crossing of Paris – before congestion – from bumper level and of course highly illegal speeds are involved. Ford has decided to reenact the stunt in a more official way – with people able to embark on a technological experience thanks to the use of virtual reality. And yeah, the Blue Oval clip is called Re-Rendez-Vous and features a Mustang GT.

The company took the steps of getting all the appropriate permits and filmed everything legally and most of all, safely. And they even contacted Lelouch to get everything in order. Not all worked out – though – some of the roads from 1976 are gone now. “I had goose bumps watching ‘C’etait un Rendez-Vous’ forty years later in virtual reality. At the time, my movie was about the feeling of freedom and the pleasure driving generates,” commented Lelouch. And if you care to remember the original – it’s embedded below.
