The new Ford GT race car has been spotted testing around the Sebring Raceway recently.
Besides pulling the wraps off the new generation of the GT supercar, Ford is also getting ready to present the new GT race car. A prototype of the vehicle has been caught on the Sebring Raceway recently while doing some fast laps and you can see it in the video posted below. Before clicking the play button, you will want to turn the volume up because the prototype’s engine is roaring beautiful.
The new Ford GT race car will be based on the road-legal version and will be celebrating its racing debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona next January. The model will be competing in the LM GTE-Pro class and it will get an aerodynamic body kit, which will make it different than the road-legal variant. This will include the new front splitter, the larger diffuser and, of course, the prominent rear wing, amongst others. Power to the race will be provided by the 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 twin turbo engine, which has been designed especially for racing applications. There is no word at this time on its specifications but we do know that in the road-legal model, this is capable of putting down more than 600 HP (447 kW). Additional details on the upcoming Ford GT race car are limited at this point and chances are we will see it, as a preview at least, at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
