This week we’re getting the reveal of the namesake BMW 8 Series concept that heralds the impending resurrection of the famous series – and to ease the wait we have some virtual ideas to share.
The 8 Series lasted for a decade and only came out in limited numbers – about 31,000 units – before being retired in 1999. Now the company has decided to bring back its halo sports car – after years and years of rumors and speculations both from specialists and fans of the brand. The official introduction comes next year, but before that we’re going to be treated at the end of the week to an official prototype preview. Because the company has provided a glimpse of what’s to be expected from this near-production prototype, and there are also numerous spy shots lurking on the Internet, rendering artist Jan Peisert has come up with an animation revealing the possible design of the concept.
The all-new 8 Series will most likely arrive to assume the flagship position in the automaker’s roster, thus sitting – like the name implies – above the 7 Series limousine. We could also see it take cues from the Gran Lusso concept introduced some years ago at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. This is actually the same venue where the new concept will be presented in front of the worldwide audience, so connections might be easy to assume. And because why not, the artist also envisioned a possible M8.
