The Goodwood Festival of Speed is just around the corner and the big reveals are starting the teasing game – Mercedes-AMG is joining the roster with its upcoming GT R.
The company has released the first teasers with the model, which could have under its hood the biturbo 4.0-liter V8 engine packing no less than 585 hp. The new model will be introduced to bridge the gap between the AMG GT S and the AMG GT Black Series, with the AMG GT R being mainly inspired by the AMG GT3 racer. Since we’re dealing with a bunch of teasers we’re not getting too many details out of them but as far as we can tell the new version will pack a sportier front bumper and a modified grille honoring the one on the race car. We can also distinguish a ventilated hood, a carbon fiber roof, and maybe some carbon fiber mirror caps.
From the rumor land we also know the AMG GT R will sport a center-mounted exhaust, an aggressive rear diffuser, and a large rear wing. Mercedes is of course acting all mysterious but we’re pretty sure the powertrain will be the same – albeit in upgraded form. The biturbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that usually delivers 503 horsepower in the AMG GT S should pack as much as 585 hp – given the subtle hint of the exact same number being posted on the car’s license plate. It’s also going to be lighter – by up to 175 pounds compared to its lesser versions.
