The crazy Top Gear automobile contraptions are no more (at least for a while), but that hasn’t stopped followers from coming up with crazy ideas that involve high-performance automobiles.
This is the case with Audi Middle East which decided to pit the Audi RS7 Sportback performance sedan against the world’s fastest elevator that can be found in Dubai inside the Mission Impossible famous Burj Khalifa. The town is well known for its fancy ideas – also called the Las Vegas of the Middle East for good reason – and Burj Khalifa is a skyscraper worthy of being called one of the wonders of the modern world. It’s 828 meters tall and has 57 elevators dubbed as the fastest in the world – 10 meters per second (36 km/h). That’s debatable since other sources point out to the Taipei 101 rival being the holder of the title with elevators racing at 16, 83 m/s (60.6 km/h).
But since we’re neither architects nor engineers (at least not structural engineers), we’ll let this one slide and concentrate on the Audi RS7 that was used by Audi Middle East – the one holding 560 horsepower under the hood courtesy of the RS6 sourced twin-turbo V8 engine that also bestows a top speed of 305 km/h (189.5 mph). In all fairness, a person raced from the bottom to the top of the tower while the Audi got a patch of clear road to cover on the Jebel Hafeet – one of the best mountain drives in the entire world. We’re not spilling the beans, though a goat was also involved at one time.
