Jaguar decided that it’s time to present to the public its new concept car, the C-X16, ahead of its Frankfurt Motor Show debut next week, and judging by its looks and performance, it may be the new generation of the XKR or even the XKR-S, the most powerful Jag yet.
We always said that the XKR-S isn’t really a Jag, because Jags should be gentlemen cars with fluffy suspension, a place to keep your whisky bottle and another one for your pipe, but the C-X16 Concept seems to take the powerful XKR to a new level.
According to the automaker, the C-X16 Concept is powered by a 3.0 liter V6 unit, delivering 375 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque, mated to an eight-speed gearbox with an integrated motor generator, which draws power from a 1.6 kWh battery pack, providing an additional 70kW and 235 Nm of boost, which is activated from a button on the steering wheel.
The new Jag Concept is also using regenerative braking to feed the batteries and its CO2 emissions are 165 g/km. The C-X16 can travel on electric power for a limited distance with a top speed of 88 km/h or 50 mph.
When using all of the technology placed under its hood, the C-X16 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and it can hit a top speed of 300 km/h or 186 mph.
Whether the C-X16 Concept is actually a new generation of the XKR, with a need to save the environment, will come to light at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week, when the car will be officially unveiled.
