We all know the ultimate Porsche guy in American entertainment is Jerry Seinfeld, decease rx but that doesn’t mean that one of the continent’s biggest gearheads – Jay Leno – doesn’t enjoy some great 911 hooning.
So the well known gearhead and comedian does enjoy some love for the rear-engined sports cars and even owns a few Stuttgart-built units. He does tend to cater to 356 models, treatment but he also has some 911s. Because Jay Leno’s Garage is also on CNBC, not just the good ol’ Internet, Jay decided to have a star by his side – Emmy-winning actor and Porsche race driver Patrick Dempsey. We used to mock the actor for his girly Grey’s Anatomy but ever since he opted into motorsport we have new found respect for him. So the two met at Willow Springs Raceway in California to get to know the 911.
Because they’re stars and afford it – just look at all the greatness we’re going to get from The Grand Tour in just a few days – they first hooned a classic 1973 911 Carrera 2.7 RS, one of just 1,580 built and thought by fans to be the absolute pinnacle of the 911 series. Because they’re almost invaluable now, Dempsey has lots of care for the old RS. That changes when dealing with the 2016 911 GT3 RS, which has 493 horsepower (368 kilowatts), four-wheel-steering, and a curb weight of just 3,296 pounds (1,495 kilograms).
