[Video] Land Rover outs an amazing “x-ray” transparent concept
Talk about geek love and cars. The Brits from Land Rover decided to show off at the 2014 New York Auto Show an amazing concept – a Discovery with a transparent hood.
We’re not kidding and April 1st has passed a good while ago – and if you still don’t trust us, check out the pics and video. Just about when everyone saying car tech is actually talking about some kind of smartphone integration, or social features or autonomous project – the 4×4 experts from Land Rover bring us this.
The bottom line is this – the Land Rover Discovery Concept features a “transparent” hood that allows mountain dwellers to see what’s beneath the car with the help of cameras embedded in the front grille and a full width display sitting at the bottom of the windshield.
The Discovery Vision concept is also revealing some secrets in regard to the company’s design future, but frankly we’re still trying to cope with the sci-fi feature for now.
“We are developing new technologies including the Transparent Hood to give drivers an augmented view of reality to help them tackle anything from the toughest off-road route to the tight confines of urban parking,” said Dr. Wolfgang Epple, director of research and technology for Jaguar Land Rover.
And, while the concept for now is geared towards off-road utilization, the technology – if it finds a speedy and premium segment cheap way of getting into every car could unveil a whole set of features – from using it to park better to assisting the autonomous system of the car. Land Rover, take the Discovery to the Discovery channel and tell us all about your wonder tech, please!
