From the start we could tell you that di Montezemolo’s departure from Ferrari marks the end of an era. But we won’t. Instead, we’ll tell you to have the patience to watch the video and understand that it’s like a father forced to leave behind his loving and loved family.
He could very well be the last of a dying breed – he was Chairman of the Ferrari super car brand for over two decades. He watched the specialist automaker become a world power in its segment, rising to such fortunate sales the executive decided to put a cap on production to ensure exclusivity.
We told you extensively when the announcement was made why he decided to step down – tradition met with Sergio Marchionne’s bullish tactics and the latter won the fight. Ferrari has risen to new heights and probably di Montezemolo’s reign has left enough marks to ensure good fortunes for years to come.
But, just watching the video you can see there aren’t many places where this many red jumpsuits and finest Italian tailoring could be seen. Or the fact that – probably quite unique among this business climate – when Luca Cordero di Montezemolo final act was to get in his gray Ferrari to drive himself home, he was stopped from leaving by workers who asked him to sign their clothes. And you also don’t need to understand Italian to see that the outgoing executive is talking like a proud father to his praised family.
