The Maserati Levante is that premium crossover no one really talks about anymore – even though having a Maserati SUV is just as odd as going hunting through the woods in the Bentley Bentayga.

Just to show off the Italian brand has concocted an SUV that is just as capable of gentlemen feats, the UK division of the brand decided to stage a lord’s race. This is actually in preparation for the Grand National Festival taking place this weekend at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool, but also looks something that could be jolly good fun before the five o’clock tea. The Maserati Levante has been much discussed when it comes to its new sport-utility nature that gets mixed with the usual road prowess Italian DNA – though little has been found so far about its off-road capabilities. Maserati decided to take a leap of faith and bring us some off-road fun, though they decided for a twist – ad not pit it against the likes of the Porsche Cayenne or Range Rover. This is because England’s Grand National – the most renowned National Hunt horse race is taking place this weekend near Liverpool. So the brand turned to the Skelton brothers to pit the Levante horsepower against an actual horse. National Hunt Trainer and Maserati ambassador Dan Skelton would be handling the Levante diesel, while professional Hunt Jockey Harry Skelton would man a horse named Dinnie O.
