We should be kicking off 2017 in style so why not settle for a battle of the supercars – and among the best last year were Mercedes’ AMG GT and Audi’s high performance R8.
They have a similar price group, but if you watch the video embedded below you’ll find out that in reality they’re not that similar in terms of performance, even on a straight line. By the way, the video has to do with “accessible” supercar cruising, because the couple is not in the flagship version. Once, actually not that long ago, the GT S was the range-topping version of its respective lineup. Today, it’s being bested not only by the Nurburgring tamer – the GT R – but it appears it will also be superseded by the GT C Coupe. Meanwhile we all know the regular R8 can be bested by the V10 Plus model.
On the other hand the two share a common price group, though for the chunk of money the future owner will get two models that seem worlds apart: the R8 is classic in having a mid-engine layout with a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 sending its grunt to all four wheels. Meanwhile, the GT S is also traditional in getting the engine up front with the power sent to the back wheels but uses a modern biturbo 4.0-liter V8. We’ll let you check out the video to see who gets the glory for “affordable” supercar shenanigans.
