The most hardcore iteration of the AMG GT line is not yet out and about at dealerships, diagnosis so we’re still eagerly scanning the Internet for appearances of the track-oriented coupe.
While the model captured here eschews that quirky green paint, we can tell you the menacing black paint bodes well with its capabilities. The Mercedes-AMG GT R has 577 horsepower (430 kilowatts) and 516 pound-feet (699 Newton meters) of torque under the hood where the modified biturbo 4.0-liter V8 resides. And European fans will have to wait until November to put it through its paces – while Americans have to wait until next year. But you can taste a little of what lies ahead with this clip depicting the R in and around the Nurburgring Nordschleife. So we can see how it handles blazing through the corners, as well as establish the regular commute manners after exiting the course.
The black GT R looks stealthy and fantastic, and the discretion tone is unfortunately emphasized by the rather quiet exhaust note – a statement to having trouble opening the soundtrack when discussing turbocharged engines. The relaxed cruising scenario appears to be handled well by the coupe, even though it’s full of race-inspired elements such as the big wing and diffuser setup or road-hitting front splitter.
