The Mercedes-AMG GT range is getting ready for yet another family expansion – beyond coupe and convertible bodies into the realm of luxury sports sedans, as previewed by the GT Concept.
The company is going to unveil the new concept car in a matter of hours on the show floor of the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, and we can simply confirm now the upcoming addition of a four-door model to the existing range of two seaters. The concept’s design seems to feature the same curvaceous lines as on the coupe, albeit with an elongated body to fit in the extra pair of doors. Being a previewing concept, we have huge, intricately designed wheels tucked underneath massive fenders. There’s also a center-exit exhaust and an aggressive diffuser while up front the classic mirrors have been ditched in favor of rear-view cameras.
Rumors are putting the new model inside a GT4 designation, as an answer for the Porsche Panamera. The production-ready version should use the same 4.0-liter biturbo V8 from the GT Coupe and Roadster – the engine can be had in numerous states of tune of up to 603 horsepower (450 kilowatts) in the newest E63S. AMG has only commented that “the performance brand offers an advance view of its four-door sports car at the Geneva Motor Show.”
