Mercedes-Benz has released the first engine details of the new AMG GT, as the model in question is just months away from being officially unveiled.
After releasing the first details on the AMG GT just a few days ago, the German based automaker Mercedes-Benz is placing it into the spotlights once again, this time with the help of a new video, which is detailing the engine. Codenamed the M178, this is an Euro 6 compliant unit which is weighing 209 kg (460 lbs) and it is coming with twin overhead camshafts, flow optimized cylinder heads, lightweight pistons and more.
The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT will be taking its power from a 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 engine. According to the car manufacturer, the unit will be producing a total output of 510 HP (375 kW) at 6,250 rpm and it will have a peak torque of 650 Nm (479 lb-ft), available between 1,750 rpm and 4,750 rpm. Sadly Mercedes-Benz didn’t announce any performance specifications on the new AMG GT but the model in question will be quite fast considering the fact that its main competitor will be the Porsche 911. The sports car is said to get some other variants too, including a Black Series. These haven’t been confirmed yet.
