[Video] Mercedes-Benz SLC pays us a spy visit before landing in Detroit image

Mercedes-Benz looks ready and willing to deliver the Mercedes-Benz SLC – the facelifted SLK roadster – during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next January.

But before that official public introduction is a fact, we get some spy footage of the SLC (you may have known it as the SLK) while undergoing prototype testing on the public roads at home in Germany. Company executives have already hinted the production-ready version of the new SLC will be ready in time for the Detroit event so naturally the finishing touches include numerous miles of open road testing. We see the mildly disguised car will only come with modifications to the front and back bumpers and radiator grille. We also have a rumored switch from bi-xenon to LED headlights and a tweak of the LED taillight design.

A more impressive news is that a new SLC 450 AMG Sport version will expand the lineup as a way of bridging the gap between the regular variants and the high performance AMG model. Taking the details from the already introduced C450 AMG Sport, we could see the SLC sport under the hood 367 PS (270 kW) and 517 Nm (382 lb-ft) thanks to the same heart – a twin-turbo V6 3.0-liter. The fully fledged AMG version will unfortunately lose the noble naturally aspirated V8 5.5-liter engine in favor of the aforementioned V6 that will likely mirror the SLK 55 AMG’s power level – 421 PS (310 kW) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque.
