We’ve already seen the interior of the all-new Mercedes-Benz G Class off-roader, and the long wait is almost over, because the company has now teased the official reveal date – January 15.
The iconic model is thus scheduled for debut on January 15, meaning it’s going to save itself for the second press day of the 2018 North American International Auto Show taking place in Detroit. The new teaser video has a strong Jurassic Park vibe – fans might remember the company has been a partner to the franchise – and the Stuttgart-based manufacturer talks about the inherited DNA of the legendary rugged machine, claiming it “impresses under all conditions with its performance, state-of-the-art assistance systems for safety and comfort, superb handling.”
Naturally, the all-new G Class will remain true to its heritage, to the point of people having trouble spotting the new generation from its predecessors from a distance when discussing the exterior design. It’s going to feature a lot more under the metal though – for example an independent suspension at the front axle and a more modern electro-mechanical rack and pinion configuration in lieu of the old-school recirculating ball steering system. It’s also been put on a diet and will arrive with an upgraded AWD system, while the cabin has been completely redesigned, featuring a high-tech layout akin to the new S-Class and E-Class.
