[Video] Mini might be testing a super-hot hatchback Clubman JCW on the Nurburgring image

The British automaker has already presented the new generation Clubman, including its hotter John Cooper Works version – so we’re wondering what is a prototype of a Clubman JCW doing at the Green Hell.

There was a distant rumor back in 2015 that talked about Mini trying to enter the stratosphere of the hot hatchback segment with a model that would go against the Honda Civic Type R or even Ford Focus RS – but this is actually the first time we’re seeing this particular camouflaged Clubman at the ‘Ring. An AWD, 300 hp plus version of the Clubman seems pretty farfetched at the time, but this video shows us the Mini delivering some guttural sounds from its exhaust – so we’re starting to wonder if the brand isn’t indeed working on a hardcore version.

There isn’t too much information to discuss either, because while there’s some camouflage the automaker isn’t really trying to hide anything. A slightly modified front end seems to borrow and mix elements from the existing Clubman S and John Cooper Works. What is a trademark of some enhancements is the exhaust tune – which is unlike anything from the current Mini JCW family. The current Clubman John Cooper Works has a turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine good for 228 hp (170 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm).
