There are numerous perks when you’re a motoring journalist – you get to ride the latest automotive creations for instance – but every now and then some of us stand out from the crowd.
This is exactly what happened to our colleagues from Motor Trend, who got the rare opportunity to drive around in Aston Martin’s million-dollar Lagonda Taraf in the United Kingdom. Since they’re good guys they also decided to share their impressions – which can be seen in the attached video. The ultra-exclusive Lagonda Taraf – Aston’s rival for the Bentleys and Rolls-Royces out there – is indeed a modified Rapide. But since it has been stretched, clad in carbon fiber we deem it special enough to pass as a new model line. It also takes us to the times when the original Lagonda was being produced in the 1970s and 1980s. And exclusivity today is insured by the million dollar starting price in the US or the fact that only 200 units will be manufactured.
Motor Trend had the chance to play around in the V12 four door sedan which is being built at the same facility where the British exotic manufacturer had worked on the One-77. Now the place is delivering a 212.5-inches (5.4-meters) long saloon, with ample space for passengers thanks to the wheelbase spanning at 125.6 inches (3.19 meters). The naturally-aspirated 5.9-liter engine sparks 540 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque, sent to the back axle via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
