While it kind of awkward to participate in drag races without the usual sound-intensive soundtrack, it’s interesting to see the Electric Fox running the quarter mile to a new European record.
With Maris Ozolins behind the wheel, the electric dragster did it in 7.631 seconds at 171.02 mph (275.23 kph). It all went down at the start of last month, when the Electric Fox was on the Tierp Arena in Sweden where it completed the run for an all new European record for an electric dragster in the quarter mile. The model also came just 0.357 seconds off the current world record. The model is now third in the NEDRA overall standing and rules the DR/A5 class.
If you’re not really familiar with electric drag racing – we’re not, but got up to snuff – we can tell you the Electric Fox tips the scales at 1,598 pounds (725 kilograms) and has a SFI2.5C-spec chassis and a unique 800V lithium-ion battery pack. The muscle is provided by six YASA electric motors delivering a combined output of 1,368 horsepower (1,020 kilowatts) and 1,595 pound-feet (2,160 Newton-meters) of torque. The team that built this ambitious project comes from Latvia and they said their final goal is to complete the quarter mile in under seven seconds and come out of the run with a trap speed of more than 200 mph (322 km/h).
