Here’s one of our first chances to see the new Genesis G70 model showing its prowess in what shouldn’t be its normal environment – the Nurburgring Nordschleife track.
We do have a feeling the G70 is going to master the Green Hell quite well – since it’s actually being based off the equivalent sporty model from Kia, the Stinger. The Genesis G70 is setting its sights on the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, and Mercedes C-Class European premium compact sedans – and we’ll see if Genesis as a newly formed brand will manage to snatch some of the buyers. Enthusiasm has been positive for the DNA-related Kia Stinger, so we could see the third model from the premium brand represent a true alternative for the German cars.
According to reports, the G70 is being developed as a “pure sports sedan,” lighter and smaller than the Stinger – and we expect better performance from the model, when equipped with the group’s biturbo 3.3-liter V6. Genesis is going to reach Europe during the upcoming decade, so no worries for the European luxury brands on home soil, at least for now. It’s also going to be interesting to see if Genesis will reach the European market with diesel engines or the technology will become obsolete by the time they land on the Old Continent.
