[Video] Nissan talks about truck heritage – here’s a 1971 Datsun 1600 image

The mighty Titan XD has a long line of predecessors inside the Japanese company and Nissan made sure we remember this as it outed some footage with a 1971 Datsun 1600 that was recently purchased by the automaker.

The pickup truck first welcomed its owner back in 1971 – Marvin Askew paid just a little over $2,000 for the model. He apparently fell in love with the Japanese model as he has been driving in for over four decades and clocked around 150,000 miles on the odometer. He even nicknamed it – “Sweet Pea” due to its color – but the love affair ended when he met with Nashville businessman Dan Tito who acquired the truck. The pair first met at a local gas station where they discussed about the truck and its possible sale – which was then perfected a few weeks later through another chance encounter.

Because Askew knew Tito would take car to the truck he agreed to the sale of the beloved machine, but then the new owner realized he didn’t have enough room for the truck in his garage. Instead of selling it further along, he took the issue to Nissan who snatched the vehicle that now resides in the company’s Heritage Collection.
