Ladies and gentlemen, before watching the video embedded below please place your bets – is the hot hatch of the moment able to take on a mighty sports car with a classic mid-mounted engine setup?
The video here sees someone using the 2016 Ford Focus RS as a chase vehicle on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit – following an unsuspecting – at first – Porsche Cayman GT4. That someone inside the Focus RS is actually Autocar’s Sam Sheehan, who was on the Belgian track for a review of the machine. We’ll let you judge the result after watching the video and we’ll even refrain from commenting the rubber issue – the British publication was asked about the tires of the Focus RS and said they were the “optional Michelin Pilot Super Sport.” But as far as we know those are actually the standard ones, with the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 being the extra available set.
There’s undeniably a sheer amount of madness to go after a $85,595 mid-engined Porsche inside a $35,900 hot hatch. But then again the Focus RS does have a 2.3-liter turbo four under the hood with more than 350 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque to chase down the naturally-aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six in the middle of the Cayman GT4 with its 385 hp and 309 lb-ft of torque.
