For those not looking to tower over the streets from inside an SUV – perhaps Porsche’s third generation Cayenne – the German automaker has the perfect solution.
If you’re in the need for extra space for your family and stuff, then the new Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo might do the trick – but be warned, this behemoth of a car (Porsche has an allergy to the word wagon) is going to set you back $188,400 in the United States or €188,592 in Germany. Of course, this is not your ordinary family hauler used for regular kindergarten and soccer activities – with 680 horsepower, 850 Newton-meters (627 pound-feet) of torque and a sprint to 62 mph (100 kph) in 3.4 seconds you might not want to actually test its maximum speed of 193 mph (310 kph). And you can quickly haul stuff using the 425 liters of storage space – growing to 1,295 liters once you electrically fold down the 40:20:40-split seats.
Given its plug in hybrid credentials, you can also travel up to 30 miles (49 km) running solely on electric power, at speeds of up to 87 mph (140 kph) and while in hybrid setup you can boast an average fuel consumption of just 3 liters / 100 km. It’s still a heavyweight – the biturbo 4.0-liter V8 engine and all the rest of the metal will tip the scales at no less than 2,325 kilograms (5,125 pounds).
