The video in itself isn’t actually all that revealing, featuring the standard promotional duties for a new performance machine from the M GMBH division – but better read the fine print, aka the description for all the juicy details.
The all-new BMW M3 CS is surely going to be a rare bird – just 1200 units will ever be produced, and probably they’re all sold out by the time we watch the video. And there’s reason for this success – it’s lighter, faster, more performance oriented than the already high-performance M3 sedan. And it even comes with Nurburgring backing for all that, it seems. The 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine now delivers 453 horsepower (337 kilowatts) and 443 pound-feet (600 Newton-meters) of torque, good for a 0-60 mph (96 kph) sprint in a mere 3.7 seconds, then an electronically-governed maximum speed of 174 mph (280 kph).
The new ad, entitled “The Icon. Further Enhanced.”, sees the new M3 CS – though sparingly – delivering on the performance credentials. We even get beauty shots of the powerful six-cylinder engine, the vocal sports exhaust system, and the slightly modified interior. But the best bit comes from the description: “The all-new BMW M3 CS is the most powerful standard production vehicle of all time in the M3 model series. Best time of 7 minutes, 38 seconds on the legendary Nordschleife of the Nürburgring and everyday utility of a four-door sports saloon: The culmination of a sporting icon.” And with the time it’s actually the second-fastest sedan, just behind the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, who sported a 7 minutes 32 seconds time.
