[Video] Renault Sport turns the R.S. 01 into the Interceptor policemen around the world need image

Unless you’re living in Dubai the police cars are not exactly the spiciest examples of the automotive world – but Renault Sport has decided things need to change and they’re delivering the R.S. 01 Interceptor.

First showcased back in 2014, the R.S. 01 is a purpose-built race car with a carbon monocoque chassis and an aerodynamic composite body – the lightweighting procedures have delivered a weight of just 1,100 kg (2,425 lbs). Now the company has taken the track-only racer and morphed it into the R.S. 01 Interceptor – a bad ass cop car that uses the same biturbo 3.8-liter V6 engine to deliver a full pony stable of more than 500 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. The said lightweight construction and powerful mill will deliver a highway chase heart-stopping top speed of more than 186 mph (300 km/h).

Because the model has been taken off its regular duties as a racer and enlisted into the police force, it now sports LED emergency lights, a tri-color police livery, and Interceptor Highway Patrol badging on the doors. We also noticed the bad guy deterring massive rear wing which has a digital message board that allows the cop driver to communicate with other road participants. And for the footage below instead of Robocop (sounds like a pretty fit car, right?) at the wheel we found former World Rally Championship driver Jean Ragnotti manning the R.S. 01 Interceptor.
