Seat has announced that the Leon Cupra ST has become the fastest ever estate to lap the Nurburgring.
Forget about the Audi RS4 Avant, the RS6 Avant, BMW M5 Touring and others because the fastest estate to ever lap the Ring is the Seat Leon ST Cupra. The announcement has been made recently and, according to TopGear.com, the model in question has managed to beat the previous record holder, the Audi RS4 Avant, which has a 4.2 liter naturally aspirated V8 engine under its hood. Despite being 45 kg heavier than the 3-door version, the Seat Leon Cupra ST is even faster and this has been proved by the clock which showed a record of 7:58-min.
“In high speed corners the ST rear axle is more progressive, and the top speed is higher with the better drag coefficient. What we lose exiting some corners we get it back in high-speed turns and on the straights. With the longer body here we can play with the rear end, to help position the car. It is a very nice racing feeling when you disconnect the ESC”, said Jordi Gene, the Spanish racer behind the wheel.
The Seat Leon Cupra ST has a lot of modifications made to it and it is riding on 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The model has a 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine which is producing either 265 HP (195 kW) & 350 Nm of torque, available between 1,750 rpm and 5,300 rpm, or 280 HP (206 kW) and 350 Nm of torque. The Cupra 2.0 TSI 260 manual can reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.2s, the 2.0 TSI 265 DSG needs 6.1s, the 2.0 TSI 280 manual can do it in 6.1s and the 2.0 TSI 280 DSG needs 6.0s. Top speed has been electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph).
