EVO Magazine has recently went for a spin in the impressive BMW i8, in a rare opportunity to take the prototype for a spin on the race track.
BMW has allowed Harry Metcalfe from Evo Magazine to go for a spin in the BMW i8 prototype, which was officially unveiled just a few weeks ago, so if you’re interested in the model, or you simply want to find out more, all you have to do is scroll down and click play. The BMW i8 will be officially presented to the public, in its final production version, during the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, on the 10th of September, in a world premiere.
The model in question is coming with a sophisticated drivetrain, with a turbocharged direct injected 1.5 liter three-cylinder engine and an electric motor. The former is driving the rear wheels, through a six-speed automatic transmission, and the latter is sending power to the front wheels though a two-stage automatic gearbox. The total output produced by the powertrain stands at 362 HP and 420 lb-ft. The 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) sprint takes 4.5 seconds and top speed stands at 155 mph (250 km/h).
