The definitive German sports car, the iconic Porsche 911 has a fabled history, riddled with rises and falls – and now a serious milestone: one million examples over the course of seven generations since back in 1963.
This video is one of those rare instances when we fully agree with the PR people from an automotive manufacturer – as the Porsche 911 is one of the most iconic sports models in the history of the auto industry, as “the continuity of the 911 design is unique in automotive history – from the first to the latest generation.” This very month the Porsche Zuffenhausen plant manufactured the one million unit 911, the anniversary model being a superb green Carrera S that will always remain with the company as it has found a place in its museum. That won’t happen before a promotional tour – from Scotland to China and the United States “and beyond.”
Now the automaker is back with a cool reminder of the great work they’ve accomplished over the years, a showcase of the design evolution the 911 has been through over the decades – from the first and original 911, that came as a replacement for the 356. Today, the Macan and Cayenne SUVs are the top selling Porsche models, though the company still envisions the 911 as “the most strategically important model in the product range,” thanks to “a huge contribution to maintaining Porsche’s position as one of the most profitable car manufacturers in the world.”
