[Video] See the BMW 30 Jahre M5 special edition drifting its brains out
The German automaker has released a new promotional video with its most powerful production model ever, the spectacular “30 Jahre M5″ special edition.
Being the most powerful BMW production ever signals the fact that the 30 Jahre M5 is not your every day special edition – with some minor tweaks and features. The series will be limited to just 300 units.
Under the hood of the “monster” lies hidden a 600 hp and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) powerhouse that is 40 hp and 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) mightier than the “standard” M5. The engineers squeezed the extra power and torque from the twin-turbo V8 4.4-liter by increasing the charge pressure and installing a new management system, with the M Dynamic Mode also reprogrammed.
The “30 Jahre M5″ special edition adds a 10mm lowered suspension, bi-color 20-inch rims and stiffer anti-sway bars to the equation, allowing it to reach the 62 mph threshold 0.4 seconds faster – in just 3.9 seconds, thanks to the standard 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The hefty 1,870 kg (4,123 lbs) car can reach an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h) – but for an additional price (really, premium automakers have no shame!) you can get the M Driver’s Package that allows the M5 to reach 190 mph (305 km/h).
