Motor Trend’s already traditional “World’s Greatest Drag Race” has reached its seventh year, gathering up almost all contenders from their 2017 Best Driver’s Car competition – just for the chance of epic quarter-mile sprint glory.
The 12 participants are certainly no slouches – the 471-horsepower Lexus LC500, the 600-hp Aston Martin DB11, the 577-hp Mercedes-AMG GT R, the 562-hp McLaren 570GT, the 662-hp Ferrari 488 GTB, the 580-hp Porsche 911 Turbo S, the 600-hp Nissan GT-R Nismo, and the 350-hp Porsche 718 Cayman S represent the sports car department. Meanwhile the 650-hp Camaro ZL1 1LE and 460-hp Corvette Grand Sport should be more than up for the task since Americans love drag racing.
And for a dash of audacity, there are also two sedans – the 505-hp Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and the Tesla Model S P100D. The craziness ensued at the Vandenberg Air Force base in Santa Barbara county, with more than 6,000 horsepower combined stretching over 15,000 ft of airstrip. We’re really not going to spoil the fun and tell you the victor of the quarter-mile standing – though you might have already guessed. Even if you did, watch the video – it’s worth it.
